mainly music is half an hour of rhythm, rhyme, music and movement for pre-school aged children and their parents.

Kids develop co-ordination, motor skills, language and social interaction in both structured and free-play environments.

Adults learn songs and rhymes that they can use at home to teach their children colouring, counting and even cleaning up! It’s also a chance to meet with parents of other children.

Both adults and children participate in activities making it a special opportunity to spend time, and make memories, together.

Morning tea is provided after each session.

Do I need to take anything to a mainly music session?

No, everything is provided for you at the session. However, sometimes a group will stage a theme day when you might be asked to bring your child in gumboots or dressed up, but we’ll give you plenty of notice about this.

What age should I start my child at mainly music?

You can start your child from birth! Seriously, if you need to get out of the house – come! Once your baby becomes more interested (or even awake) during the sessions, bounce your child, swing and sway your child, move their hands to the movements. And once the baby becomes a toddler, they’ll be keen to participate.

Can I start mid-term?

Yes. mainly music is a fun interactive music session – not music classes. So you’re not coming in part way into a curriculum. You can join at any time.

What if I miss a week?

That’s okay – you have a young child! Routines go upside down, children get sick, mornings just don’t happen the way you expected … so stay at home and don’t fret.

mainly music in the park

July 7th, 2007

This coming week, Tuesday July 10th, we’re having our mainly music session in the park. We’ll be at Brelsford Park in the centre of Coffs at 10 am. So just come along and look for us near the play equipment – there’ll be balloons. We can almost guarantee it won’t be as hot as our last mainly music in the park (what were we thinking in January?), but bring hats and sunscreen anyway.

mainly music gallery update

December 30th, 2006

Just want to let you know we’ve just updated our gallery for mainly music, our program for kids 0-6 and their caregivers. It’s hard to get everyone to stay still long enough to take a photograph, but somehow we managed to get a few new shots.

mainly music is on a break for the school holidays and resumes on Tuesday 30th January.

mainly music week five

November 14th, 2006

I can’t believe we just had week five of mainly music. I’m just glad that the rest of the week doesn’t go as fast as those 30 minutes. I always get to the last song and think ‘already? no!’ We even have some kids asking for more.

It’s great to sit back and relax over a cuppa and make friends after the session. Robyn and Kirsty have been wowing us with some great home cooking, which is always appreciated while the kids are playing – though my little one can smell mum with chocolate from a hundred metres – and talking sometimes helps to get ‘Pop-Up Clown’ out of my head. Sometimes. Although, today I saw a little person learn ‘up’ as we sang it so it has to be ok.

With Christmas so close it’s a great time to come along and find out ways of making Christmas really special as we remember why we celebrate. There’s always room for more to come and have fun singing, dancing and moving. See you soon!

mainly music week one

October 23rd, 2006

Where do I start?

We started mainly music last week and had so much fun that our resident 19 month old asked to go again the next day. I wanted to too!

Apart from the great aerobic workout I had, I never knew how cool it would be to teach tiny people basic things that I’ve taken for granted since before I can remember, and to help their Mums teach them too.

It’s great having a little person to practice with at home all the time cos she’s a walking ad for mainly music – I can’t believe the huge leaps she’s made in the last couple of weeks in her fine motor skills and her speech. Though if I have to do ‘Mr Snail’ one more time…

You’ll just have to come along and find out why she loves it so much. Just be ready to fall in love yourself!
